LEAGUE PRAISED

ADDRESS BY DR. INKSTER

Mrs. Charles .McPhee presided at the first meeting for 1940 of the Kelburn.branch of the League of Mothers and; welcomed the many members and the delegates to the Dominion conference. Mrs. S. O. English, the newlyelected president of the Dominion Council, and the other delegates, were each presented with a sheaf of flowers. Mrs. English, in expressing her pleasure at being present, congratulated the president on the lines on which the branch was conducted. As a mark of respect to the late Mrs. Chote. members stood in silence for a few minutes.

The Rev. Dr. Inkster, who gave an address, congratulated the organisation on its name, which he said could not be better. It was a name, he said, of distinction and capability. It took a good woman to be a good mother, and' there could be no sanctity in the home if there was no sanctity in the marriage vow. .

Mrs. Inkster, who also spoke briefly, was much impressed with the aims and ideals of the league, and the "flower sense" of New Zealand women. She said she did not think that there was any organisation in Canada that corresponded to the League of Mothers. Mrs. Dunn sang, accompanied by Mrs. Collins, and the choir also contributed two items. Posies were presented to Mrs. Inkster and Mrs. Dunn.

The prayer for peace, the National Anthem, and afternoon tea served by Mrs. Gardiner and her assistants, concluded the afternoon.
