GOVERNMENT BUYING
DELAY IN PAYMENTS
CRITICISM OF ATTITUDE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. "During the past year or two, doubtless due to the shortage of funds, many Government Departments have been taking three, four, or even six months to settle .their accounts, and although they have forfeited any right to cash discounts they are still claiming them. This is not fair commercial practice," stated an Auckland business firm in a letter read at today's meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Harvey Turner thought they should ask the Government to adopt a uniform method regarding its buying and selling. When business firms bought grain from the Government a deposit was required before the order was supplied, but the position was entirely different when the Government was the buyer.
After some discussion the matter was referred to the executive for appropriate action.
