U.S. AND AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTS
TRADE PACT UNLIKELY
(Received March 14, 6.20 a.m.) NEW YORK, March 13. Commenting on a statement by the Australian Minister to the United States, Mr. R. G. Casey, that the time was inappropriate to negotiate a trade agreement between Australia and America and that a post-war agreement was unlikely because of the similarity in the products of the two countries, the "Journal of Commerce," in a preliminary exploration of the subject, supports Mr. Casey.
"Since Australia is largely agricul tural,' comments the journal, "the United States would need to grant tariff reductions on commodities competing with her own production and these would not be compensated for by Australia's industrial concessions to the United States.**
