SHETLAND SOCIETY
The Shetland Society of Wellington held its monthly meeting in the 1.0.0. F. Hall, Allen Street. There was a large attendance of members and friends. The president of the society, Captain Inkster, welcomed as the guests of the evening, the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Inkster. Replying, Dr. Inkster said that he was very proud of the fact. that he had been born in the Orkney Islands, which lie only a few miles to the south of the Shetlands, and also that he was a .descendant of the Vikings who had settled on these islands in. ancient times, and who had prodiieedf a people who were known throughput the world for ..their outstanding initiative and integrity. A picturesque touch was provided when Guiser Jarl, Mr. V. Tulloch, and his squad of guisers. dressed in traditional Viking clothes, welcomed Shetlanders who had recently visited their homes in the Shetlands. and one of them, Mr. H. Scott, gave a talk on his tour. Dancing and a short programme followed, items being contributed by Misses P. Lawson, Collins, and O'Halloran, and piano-accordion selections by pupils of Mrs. McGowan.
