TEMPERATURES MILD

Special forecast for Wellington:-— Light to moderate and variable winds.

Weather fine, with cool nights and mild days.

The forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued by the Meteorological Office at noon today for the ensuing 24 hours, is for moderate to strong, but gradually decreasing, south-easterly winds in the north, light and variable winds in the central districts, and freshening northerlies in the south, but with a southerly change in the far south tonight. The weather for • the most part will be fair to fine and mild, with some scattered showers in--the Auckland and Hawke's Bay Provinces, and unsettled conditions extending from the west of Otago and Southland, but improving again in the latter areas in the weekend.

An intense anti-cyclone still covers the Dominion, while a disturbance of a tropical nature, which is almost disappearing east of the Auckland Peninsula, is having little effect on the weather. Rain has continued in the Gisborne area, heavy falls having been reported from Matawai (202 points) and Cape Te Karaka (217 points). Gisborne reported a fall of 84 points. There have been scattered light falls in North Auckland also. Elsewhere the weather has been fine. Light to fresh winds between east and south predominated yesterday. They were strong, however, in exposed positions, north of Wellington. This morning the winds were light to moderate and variable, except in the extreme north, where strong south-easterlies were still blowing. Temperatures have been moderate.

It was sunny yesterday in Auckland, although there was some passing cloud. There have been moderate to fresh south-easterly and westerly winds. Moderate temperatures ranged? from 72.3 degrees, to 54.6 degrees.

The spell of fine weather has continued in Wellington, and there were 11.5 hours of bright sunshine yesterday. A light south-easterly wind died away in the evening. Moderate temperatures ranged from 64 degrees to 45.4 degrees.

Christchnrch- has also had sunny weather, but a fresh easterly wind kept temperatures moderate, the maximum being 62.3 degrees and the minimum 51.2 degrees.

Conditions in Dunedin have been good, with a light south-west wind. Temperatures have been moderate.
