SUNNY CORNER GOOD

IMPERIAL JADE RESUMES

(Special from "Irvington.")

CHRISTCHURCH, March 8.

Track work, would suggest that Southern Princess is sufficiently advanced to show to advantage against a novice field, but private essays away from the barrier have not been greatly encouraging. This filly has grown into a quality-looking pacer, but .she may need time and experience to come to her best.

Southern Smile is again assuming racing shape, although it may be some time yet before she regains her best form. She was very backward when first placed back in work after her long spell, and to date she has not been asked to!do other than light training exercises. • «

k A good deal of interest will be taken in Helen Scott's efforts at the approaching Wyndham Meeting. This three-year-oid U. Scott filly has shown sufficient promise, in training to be regarded as an outstanding juvenile trotter, and her performances at this meeting should give a guide to her future prospects. Imperial Jade has been off the scene since the Ashburton Trotting Clubs Meeting last December, when she finished second to Gallant Chief in the New Zealand Champion Stakes, but she has been in steady work and figures among the pacers nominated for the Cheviot Cup. This sister to Indianapolis has developed into a quick beginner and a speedy pacer, and she is expected to reach a good standard. In winning the Wairewa Handicap Trot at the Banks Peninsula Racing Club's Meeting last week Sunny Corner gave an impressive display, and she appears certain to. win again in the near future. This was her first appearance, and she acted very greenly throughout the race, running wide on the home turn, but her speed carried her to a comfortable victory. . When she is more seasoned she should have little difficulty in holding her own in useful company. Definite, the two-year-old pacer by Quite Sure from Hope Dillon, has been purchased by Mr. C. Johnston, who is well known as the owner of De Soto. A half-brother to the brilliant Pot Luck, Definite has shaped exceptionally well in his work at New Brighton, where he was handled by his breeder, J D. Smith, and he is expected to de-. 'velop into a good pacer later on. He iwill be trained in future by V. Leeming. . . The Wrack—Berenice mare m work at Addington under J. Fraser's care has been named Ma Foi, and it is expected that she will make her first appearance at the Cheviot Trotting Club's. Meeting next week. A beautifully bred trotter, Ma Foi has had a foal and it was only recently that she was broken into harness, but she has shaped well in the short time she has been in work, and although now ranked as a nine-year-old she gives promise of developing winning form. Until recently trained at Ashburton by D. McKendry, Pilot Peter is now located at Addington under L. O. Thomas. A speedy but erratic trotter, Pilot Peter has the ability to win a number of races in his present class, but he is an extremely difficult horse to handle and needs conditions to suit him to be seen at his best. Thomas has yet to make a complete recovery from the injuries he received at the Wellington Trotting Club's Meeting in January, but his damaged leg is slowly responding to treatment and he is now fully able to drive work.
