CHANGE FOR WILLOWBANK
The new Southland two-mile chart** pion Willowbank, 4.23 2-5, arrived in Christchurch last weekend and went into R. J. Humphrey's stable a* Templeton. ■ „.' She is a chestnut pacer by the American horse Worthy Bond from Fair Wave, 2.48 3-5, from the Waverley mar* Fair Lady, by Our Thorpe, 2.6 1-5, from, Lady Trothsoon, 4.33, by Harold-Roths-1 child from Too Soon, who traces back to Topsy, dam of Win Soon, 4.31, winx ncr of the New Zealand Trotting Cup in 1914. Last season Willowbank competed mi ten races for three firsts, two seconds* and one fourth. Since August she has dead-heated with Iron Duke for first in the Gore Trotting Club Handicap, and won the Winton Trotting Club's Handicap, and established a new two* mile race record for Southland by pad* ing the distance in 4min 23 2-ssec. ■*■„. This is the greatest performance eve* recorded on a track in Southland, ana is several seconds faster than the previous record. In the Winton Trotting Club Handicap she was forced to travel over extra ground, and in spite of tnia misfortune in the running, she beat such good stayers as Katene and Happy; Locanda.
The two-year-old Phaleron, who had to be eased up owing to soreness after contesting the Great Northern Foal Stakes in December, has rejoined-th« active brigade under the care of R. S; Bagby. He is a speedy colt whos«. form has been encouraging, but unfortunately he has been affected with soreness on several occasions since h# commenced racing.
