LONDON, January 17.
Terrible winter conditions^ continue in all countries from the' Atlantic to' Asia. The death-roll lengthens daily.
Wiborg (South Finland) today1 had a temperature of 86 degrees below freezing point (Fahr.), East Norway 86, and Moscow 79 degrees below freezing point—the lowest ever recorded.
Denmark's ice-breakers are fighting a ' losing battle. Ice is covering . the Sound and the Great Belt, and also covers the sea two miles from the coast in the North Sea. It is likely to cut off the Baltic Sea even for the biggest "" ships.
Danish farmers are making clothes for their cattle from sacking, in a pathetic attempt to defeat the blizzards.-
Residents of Berlin are shivering, as they are still severely rationed forcoai despite the air force lending 250 lorries to assist in its distribution.
Hundreds of cars throughout Europe are stranded with frozen batteries.
The cold continues in Turkey, where eight further earthquake shocks brought down buildings that were damaged earlier. Britain is sending 41,000 garments, 1880 tons of food, and several field kitchens. Warships have brought medical supplies.
