STUD SHEEP AT MASTERTON
; The slightly smaller beef yarding at the Westfield stock sale yesterday sold under keen competition. Values for cows and heifers, .however, were easier. Prices for beef were Is' a 1001b lower. An average entry of, first-class calves met with a keen demand, though values eased considerably as the sale progressed, t Competition was keen for an average yarding of pigs, values remaining firm-on late quotations. A big. yarding of sheep sold under keen competition at full late rates. An average entry of lambs sold at full late-rates., ■ ... . :•■ - The demand for fat cattle at the Burnside sale was not keen, andl values receded by 20s to 30s a head for prime sorts and continued to ease throughout the auction. A small portion of the fat sheep were prime heavy sorts and these met with a keen demand, prices rising by 2s to 3s a head. The quality was better than that seen recently. Butchers competed freely for all heavy weights. The sale was firm. Baconers were in .the majority in the yarding of pigs. The opening of the auction found prices down by 6s a head, but there was a steady improvement as the sale:went on and last week's' values prevailed at, the close.
