KELBURN NORMAL SCHOOL

The mans parents and interested visitors to the Exhibition of children's art and handicrafts held vby the Kelburn School in the Training College Hall on Wednesday afternoon and evening were given. . a pleasant surprise when they entered the hall and discovered the wide range of colour work in chalk, crayon, pastel, poster, and water colour. All sections of the school from the primers to the senior classes were . well represented, . the marked feature of the . exhibits being the originality of design and treatment in. a very wide variety of; subjects. The art work, showing a very unusual spirit of attack and initiative, developed from very pleasing juvenile attempts in the. junior classes to work of very great merit.in- the senior.section. Nov less-Varied, and interesting was handwork, the 'classes all contributing freeiy to a very'interesting and varied display which caused a flood of praise from all present. . An element that completed the success of the function was the flower show, the pupils displaying decorated tables, posies, bouquets, and vases of blooms. •■„■*. Among the exhibits were collections of pupils' work from Clifton Terrace Side School and the Model Country School, which caused much admiration, while the standard of attainment reached in basket-making, poster work, needlework, and woodwork, pewter, model making, and hobby crafts of various types throughout the whole display called for constant reference from an appreciative audience. Among those present were Mrs. C. Stewart.- M.P.. Mr. Lopdell, principal of the Teachers' Training College, Mr. A E Campbell, Director of Educational Research, and Colonel and Mrs. MacDonald. , , , ~ Afternoon tea "was served and a stall conducted on the bring-and-buy principle by the ladies' committee was well patronised.
