ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
FIRST AID AND HOME NURSING
With a view to standardising the work of instruction in first aid and ihome nursing, the Wellington centre i of- the St. John Ambulance Association, established an honorary instructors* | association in 1933 on the same principle as honorary instructors' associations established in other parts of the ! Empire, said Sir James Elliott, at a ! meeting of the association last night. The association comprises members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and members are specially selected for their knowledge in home nursing and first aid, for general tact, initiative, and ability to impart knowledge and the ! general understanding of members cf the general public. There are 86 members of the association, went on Sir James, 60 living in Wellington city and suburbs. Last year the Wellington centre conducted 60 courses of instruction for the general public and 975 candidates qualified for the association's awards, and for the present year -a total of 3374 certificates have been issued and 204 classes of instruction held. This gave an idea of the demand by the public to learn first aid, home nursing, and hygiene, and als3 showed the amount of work done by the instructors' association. Service medals and bars, approved by the Grand Prior, his Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester, and instructors' badges were presented by Sir James as follows: — Bar to Service Medal.—Lady Ambulance Officer Mrs. 0.
