Weather fair to cloudy and mild.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for light and variable winds in the north. Otherwise freshening northerly to westerly winds will prevail, reaching gale force in exposed positions. Winds, however, »will decrease later in the far.south. The weather at first will be fair to fine almost generally, but it will be becoming unsettled soon in tha far south, with rain spreading up western districts possibly as far north as Taranaki. East of the ranges temperatures will be warm, while elsewhere they will be mild, although becoming cooler later in the south. The anticyclone which has been covering the North Island is slowly moving away eastward, and conditions are becoming rather disturbed to the south-west. Westerly to south-westerly winds prevailed over the North Island yesterday and over the Nelson district. Winds were moderate to strong south of the Waikato and Hawke's Bay, but otherwise were light to moderate in force. Moderate to strong northeasterlies to nbrtherlies blew over the < South Island, _ gale force being reached at times in the far south. The weather generally was fair to fine, with a few isolated showers in Southland, Puysegur Point reporting 12 points of rain. Winds this morning were mainly from the northwest, and the weather was continuing fair to fine. Auckland's weather yesterday was fine, with a moderate south-westerly wind. Temperatures were mild, 66.8 degrees being the maximum and 53 degrees the minimum. A southwesterly was still blowing this morning and cloud had increased somewhat. In Wellington it was fine and mild, with a moderate northerly wind. The maximum and minimum temperatures, were 66.5 and 52.3 degrees respectively. The wind this morning had freshened, but otherwise there was not much change in the weather. It was mainly overcast in Christchurch yesterday,' but the cloud, which was high, cleared in the afternoon. The wind was a fresh to strong one from the east-north-east. Temperatures ranged between 63.6 and 54.1 degrees. Dunedin's weather yesterday was rather changeable, but for the most part it was fair and warm with a moderate north-westerly breeze.
