INSTRUCTION OF ADULTS
■■, Delegates to the Wellington Centre of the New Zea-land Swimming Association expressed the opinion at last night's meeting of the centre that the reason why more adults were not taught to swim in last year's "Learn to Swim" campaign was largely lack of personal touch. It was suggested that baths be rented during the evenings and opened only to non-swimming adults, as the presence of children able to swim was an embarrassment. Mr. E. Adam said that last year methods of instruction differed with the instructor. It would be necessary to avoid that this year. Mr. L. H. Joblin thought that before non-swimmers entered the . water it would be an advantage if they were made "water-conscious" with home exercises in baths or bowls of water. The holding of the Peck Shield race on Saturday, February 3, was confirmed, the course to be from the Floating Dock along Aotea\ Quay. Arrangements made for the national swimming championships at Riddiford Baths, commencing on February 10, included the fixing of entry fees at Is 6d for adults arid 6d for chillren. A red board will be fixed in the scurnchanhelling at each end of the baths to enable swimmers to see the end as they approach for a turn. . The Wei-' lington selectors are Messrs J. Blakeley and C. E. Claridge(swirnming) and D. Woodfield, Claridge, and Blakeley (water polo).
