BRISK ADDINGTON SALE
Competition was steady for an average yarding of good quality cattle at th: Westfield stock sale yesterday. Late rates were fully maintained. A good average yarding of cows, in which small sorts prevailed, sold to a good demand at late rates. A full entry of pigs met with . a keen ' sale. Porker values improved. Bidding, generally, was not so keen ior ewes and wethers in an average sheep entry. Values, particularly for ewes, were easier. There was a keen sale for a smaller yarding of spring lambs, values improving on late rates. The offering of fat cattle forward at the Burnside sale included a few trucks of special prime ox. The sale opened quietly, with no outside competition, and prices for all heavy grades, were at par to £1 a head down on last week. In the case of medium sorts, the easing was £1 10s.. In a large yarding of stores; a feature of the sale was a well-grown line from Hawea Flat, which brought to £13 13s for steers and to £9 12s 6d for heifers. Good cows were in keen demand, with old and inferior sorts not -vyanted. Vealers were in short supply arid sold keenly. Few dairy cows were forward, but those, that were sold well, in the case of young sorts at up to £11. The offering of fat sheep included a sprinkling of prime wethers, among a large number of heavy ewes. Prices were j keen from the start and were on the; average up.by 3s a head. Fat lamb J prices were mainly firm on late rates.! The Associated Auctioneers report! that a yarding of 500 head of station cattle, a small.yarding of sheep, and a good yarding, of pigs, were submitted | at this week's Pahiatua sale. The attendance of buyers was good. '. Most 1 of the cattle yarded were yearling steers, for which there was a satisfactory inquiry.
