BLAYDON AMISS
ALDERSHOT CHANGES HANDS
(Special from "Irvington.") CHRISTCHURCH, October 27.
Graham Direct is making a good recovery from the lameness which came against him prior to the first payment for the New Zealand Cup, but he is still on the easy list and showing signs of soreness. It is not expected that he will be placed back on the active list for some little time yet. >
The three-year-old filly Southern Princess is moving along faster in her work now, and she continues to show good promise. In recent weeks she has developed along attractive lines, and it is probable that she will be ready to race very shortly. Special Edition's easy win against a good field of improvers at Oamaru on Labour Day indicated that this young pacer is again back to his best and likely to win in better company at an early date. His form last season indicated that he is well above the average, and he is likely to prove a good stake-winner over all distances. Blaydon failed to keep his engagement in the Redeastle .Handicap at Oamaru on Monday, and it is reported that this promising horse has . gone amiss. He has always been regarded as a pacer with a future, but his career has been interrupted on more than one occasion through soreness, and it is now understood that he will be off the scene for some time.
The Wrack—Trix Pointer four-year-old Aldershot recently changed hands, and he now races in the interests of Messrs. Scott and McFarlane'. Early last season he displayed fine form to be the best of the early juveniles, but his subsequent displays saw him fall from favour. However, he recently returned from a fairly lengthy spell, and his appearance suggested that he is greatly improved by his holiday, having built up well and taken on a more solid appearance. Although Nelson Eddy has . been rather an expensive horse to follow this season, he has been highly attractive in defeat on more than one occasion, and it should not be long ' before his admirers are put on better terms. There are few, pacers with a greater turn of speed, and racing should prove to his advantage. Since coming from Epsom a consider- ! able time back, Great Mountain has done little racing, but this Great Parrish gelding is well capable oi winning races among the trotters in his present class. He is speedy and solid, and has yet to be seen at his best. P. Gallagher has a promising young trotter in Guyvester, a five-year-old gelding by Guy Parrish from a Sbrioma Harvester mare..'. J Wlieh; first placed in work two seasons ago he displayed considerable speed, but went slightly amisS and had to be turned out. To date he has done little racing, and more experience should find him a useful winner.
After a short spell in the paddock, the two-year-old.fillies: by Rey de pro from Trix Pointer and; Becky Logan respectively in F: ,G...!Holnies's stable have been placed .back in' work", and each has done well during her absence. Both are natural pacers and show great promise, while they also carry the quality associated with.good performers. Trix Pointer .was one of the outstanding pacers of her. day, and she has been represented by a number of fine racehorses, including Wrackler and Arethusa. Becky Logan has also been a successful matron. With the colt by Rey de Cro from Bonny Logan, Holmes-has. a, fine trio of two-year-olds and if early promise is any indication of future prospects he will hold a strong hand in future classic events. • ' ■■ :" ■•
