SNOOKER
LINDRUM'S DISPLAY
That Horace Lindrum has rapidly struck form in New Zealand has been displayed in games played early this week. At the Federal Club on Monday evening he had no difficulty in disposing of-several opponents, conceding six blacks to each. On Tuesday at Levin he had the almost unique expedience of clearing the table in two visits, with snooker breaks of 55 and 72, while his Maori opponent scored exactly nil. On Wednesday evening, at the Wellington Club, a brilliant billiards break of 478 fell to his cue. However, at the Town Hall before a packed house last evening, that odd jinx which all snooker players know, militated against, him, and, though at times he played brilliant strokes, various factors worked against his accumulating large breaks, the chief of which were the multiplicity of difficult positions invariably encountered.
Lindrum's opponents were L. Moffat, A. Duncan, W. Fitzgerald, and L. Stout, to all of whom he conceded four blacks start. Moffat was Lindrum's first opponent, and the former lost both games, having breaks, of 28, 25, and 23 recorded against him. In his first game against Stout, Lindrum won comfortably enough, included in his total being breaks of 24 and 20. In the second game, however, Stout was the more favoured with leaves, and, playing brilliantly, he ran to points with Lindrum unable to gain on him. Fitzgerald won his game with the assistance of the handicap, the final score being 87-66. Angus Duncan, the well-known exNew Zealand amateur billiard champion, was Lindrum's last opponent, but the visitor was on top throughout, and won handsomely, his best breaks being 30 and 22. ~,*,. An exhibition of trick shots by Lindrum closed the evening. All these were revelations to. the audience. Mr. J. Meldrum was the referee.
