SUDAN VERY WELL

CATALOGUE FOR MELBOURNE

(Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. The course proper was open at the flags wide out for fast work at Awapuni yesterday morning, when the going was good but easy.

4 The first serious gallop was that of The Bigot, who went particularly well over six furlongs in" Imin 23 4-ssec, the last three in 41 l-ssec. Another good gallop was that of Sudan and* Beaupartir over seven furlongs, the former early establishing a slight lead, but Beaupartir making a final dab to be on terms at the post in Imin 38sec. Ruaform and All Blood were kept together over a mile, the last "seven furlongc taking them Imin 43sec. Wings of Song established an early lead over Ecstatic and maintained it to the finish of their half-mile in 54sec.

One of the features of the morning was a mile gallop by the Melbourne Cup candidate Catalogue, who wanted to go on with it after being timed to run the distance in Imin 54 l-ssec. Mr. E. L. Barnes said later that F. Shean, who rode him to victory in the Cup last year, had been engaged to ride him again.

Raeburn was in front of Brazil at the end of six furlongs in Imin 23sec. It was a very attractive effort on the part of Raeburn. Clarion Call (P. Jar vis) was sent over half a dozen schooling hurdles and he gave a faultless display of brilliant jumping. Others schooled were Hunting Lore (Jarvis) over four fences. Golden Ridge (W. E. Pine), Cuisinier (E Temperton), and Battle Pomp (W. J. McDowell), who outjumped Earl Colossus (A. McDonald) in a school over four hurdles.

Riding engagements announced for Marton are:—B. H. Morris, The Bigot, Taitama, and one of the maidens from the Morris stable; W. E. Pine, Ruaform; J. Chaplin, Sunbeam; G. R. Tattersall, Silver Shekel.
