MANY MARRIAGES
An immediate effect of New Zealand's going to war has been a great increase in the number of marriage licences issued. Up to last night the total in Wellington since September 1 was 148. and indications are that last September's total of 169 will be easilypassed by the end of this month. The state of uncertainty engendered by war conditions is probably the principal reason for many weddingr which normally would not have taken place for some time yet. The great majority of the brides and bridegrooms are [young people, eight of the former, for instance, being under 21 years of age and one being as young as 16. At the other end of the scale there was a bride of 48. So far this month the registrar has performed 44 marriage i ceremonies.
