BEAU VITE'S RIDER

M. MCCARTENr FOR DERBY

(By Telegraph—Press kssociation—Copyright.) (Eeceived September 13, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. M. McCarten will ride Beau Vite in the A.J.C. Derfoy. This decision was reached by the toss of a coin with the New Zealand -jockey A. E. Ellis, resulting in McCaTten's winning. Beau Vite's owner, Mr. R. Stewart, had been in a dilemma concerning a rider. He desired to be loyal to Ellis, but realised that McCarten's greater knowledge of Australian conditions was a big factor in a classic race such as the Derby. Beau Vite has thrived since his arrival here. He galloped an easy mile at Randwick yesterday, and could not be faulted. Defaulter was .grven light exercise, with his ofMor&Le^; heavily encased in an antiphlogistine poultice. He walked soundly enough, but was not trotted or cantered. Some days will elapse before any attempt is E.iade to gallop him.
