THE BEER FRONT

MORE SKIRMISHING

WATERSIDERS DIG IN

As a result of a decision made by the Wellington Licensed Victuallers' Association, hotels in Wellington this morning served 12oz '•handles" of beer for 6d in place of the lOoz measure. Notwithstanding this action, Wellington waterside workers met and reaffirmed their decision to continue the boycott. An impromptu meeting of watersiders was held on the wharf this morning, between 600 and 700 being present. The meeting reaffirmed its decision to refrain from taking intoxicating liquors until the price of beer was reduced to 6d an imperial pint, and it was further decided to urge that the trade be brought under the Weights and Measures Act.

A meeting of Wellington timber workers has carried the following resolution: —"That this Wellington meeting of timber workers resolves to support the boycott against beer until such time as the price is satisfactorily adjusted; that we deplore any industrial organisation opposing such boycott; and that the proper Government Department should see that full measure is given for full money."
