(By Telegraph -

Press Association.J

AUCKLAND, August 24,

A reply to fears expressed by the Bureau of Importers that the shortage of female operatives in the footwear and clothing trades will result in a serious shortage of supplies and a rise in price has been received from the Acting Minister of Customs (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason).

The Minister, acknowledging a telegram on the subject from the bureau, states that an inquiry will be made into the reported shortage of female labour and into the necessity for the issue of the import licences it suggested.
