MR. A. VARNEY RETIRING
j On the administrative side of cricket there will be at lea&t one change of importance when delegates elect officebearers for the ooming year. Mr. A; Varney, who h§s been associated with the game in Wellington for some four'! teen years, has intimated that he will not be seeking re-election as hon, secretary. a post which has been filled by him with credit to himself and to the association. One of cricket's keenest enthusiasts, he has served the game well, and has for long been regarded as one of local cricket's bestknown and most popular figures. Regret at his pending retirement is expressed in the, Wellington Cricket Association's annual report, and tribute paid to his valuable service. "The committee desires to place on.record." the report states, "its deep sense of gratitude to Mr. Varney for his untiring efforts on behalf of Wellington cricket,, and for his kindly services so gener-.; ously given over a long period of years." '
