COSTS
(Speetei to the "Evenjiifl Post,") LEVIN, This Day. Forty members of the Shannon Cooperative Dairy Company attended the annual meeting. Mr : W, E, Barber, chairman, who presided, said that it was the 31st annual meeting and from its inception the company had never looked back. He regretted that shortly they were to lose the services of their manager, Mr, J. Aim, who had been manager from the day the company i had started operations. Dissatisfaction was expressed that the pay*out was less than many other fac^ . J tories, It was pointed out that in most cases the other factories ■ provided milk and cream to the large cities. It was suggested that ende~a* yours be made to share in the supply of milk pnd cream to the large centres. The output for the season was 1349 tons, a decrease of 174 tons on last year, The average payment was JS.l23d, as against 15.325 d for 1937-38. The .average grade of butter had been at a premium, namely 94.131 per cent. The stores department sales amounted to £45,260, an increase of £4000 over the previous year. Messrs. W. E, Bpber and W. ■ S. Carter, retiring directors, were re--elected unopposed? Messrs, H. Kern? ber and Sons were reappointed auditors. The following resolution was passed: "That in view of the continued increase in costs within the Dominion. it is imperative for the protecton of producers in. the dairying industry that the principle of the guaranteed price be maintained under existing economic conditions and that the price should be in accordance with the recommendation of the 1938 Advisory Committee, plus aseertainable increases \ r cost." * A motion protesting against the increase in the petrol tax was @lso carried.
