GATHERING AT THE CHATEAU

j (By Telegraph—Press Association.) | I THE CHATEAU, August 22. j Many leading skiers are now gathered at the Chateau preparatory to the 1 Dominion championships which start on Thursday. | Among those expected to be prominent in races are Brian Murphy, making a reappearance after a year's1 absence, W. B. Myhre, Christchurch, C. j R. Ambury, winner of the recent Ngauruhoe Cup contest, R. S. Duncan, Ruaj pehu Ski Club champion, and J. D. I Swan, holder of the Dominion langlauf title. . j Among the women are Misses Pat and Joan Murphy, Taranaki, well- ' known New Zealand representatives, Miss Joyce Beale, holder of the slalom title, and Mn,. D. Jackson, Westland, 1 both Dominion representatives, Miss B. [Brown, Christchurch, and Mrs. H. Ely, runner-up in the slalom championship last year. The Ruapehu Ski Club races will be decided tomorrow. The course for the Dominion straight races was marked out today, beginning on the glacier and descending [2500 ft to west of Salt Hut. j Now that the road below the Chateau is in fair order after damage through the recent thaws, attention is being concentrated on opening the road to Scoria Flat. A bulldozer became buried in a huge snowdrift yesterday, but further progress was made today. Buses are now running over the first two miles and it is expected that the road will be open, to Lower Scoria Flat shortly.
