TAKANINI HAND
JACK TAR HIGHLY RATED
(Special to the "Evening Post,") j TAKANINI. August 17. Atrocious weather conditions of late have had the effect of limiting the privileges enjoyed in the matter of tracks for Takanini-trained horses, and it was not surprising that several local ; trainers decided to take their • Pakuranga candidates to Ellerslie to work on Tuesday. In addition to affording : the horses with additional opportuni- : ties, the trials also served as a guide ias to the forward condition of the j horses in comparison with other :j centres. ■ ■ I The principal flat event should find .jJack Tar a very strong contender, as ]he has been working exceptionally ,i well, and there is every indication that Ihe is right back to his- best. He may ;be the actual favourite in the Jellicoe ! Handicap. Marie's Acre has been i shaping attractively, but it is doubtif«l whether the Acre horse really is ;at home whe33 the tracks are heavy. Bf^ haß gone well with the sting.out oi the ground, but he may be at a disadvantage with the winter conditions likely to be prevailing on Saturday. j Tip Toes is back to her best again, but I this class may be beyond her. Among the sprinters Bachelor King I and Bronwen are commanding plenty of attention, and they should be a hard pair to beat in the Admiralty Handicap Since the Wellington Meeting Bachelor King has shown a definite I improvement, and Bronwen is a speedy !hack of whom the best has yet to be I seen. She will be having her first I start m open company, and on the | minimum appeals as one likely to upset , eaacsuiataQiiis. Silver Glow has been responsible for greatHy-improved track work since running a very creditable race at the j last Waipa Meeting, and he is beine [considered as a serious contender for I honours in the Auckland Handicap. ■ | Buccaneer is a promising three-year-old making his first appearance for some considerable time, but the best performer of the local horses in this ' event is probably Saccone, who is looking exceptionally welL In the h\% field carded for the Sylvia I Fark Handicap, which is to be run in two divisions, there are numerous horses engaged with prospects of success and no doubt the draw at the post will have an important bearing on the result. Glenconnell and Gay Movie have been shaping well, while that promising hack Gamos is back to his best again. Romani will be suited by the soft track conditions, and Milanion, if track work is any criterion, is going to ; foe difficult to dispose of. Noisy Night I does not greatly appeal, and Inquisitor Us not partial to soft track conditions. Anagram is the only local jumper I engaged at the meeting, but as he has been doing his work away from headquarters no line is obtainable as to his condition. He was, however, looki«W very well when last seen at the Ellerslie June Meeting.
