PRICE OF BEER

INCREASES IN AUCKLAND

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

* AUCKLAND, August 14,

Increases in the price of beer were made effective today, resulting from the 6d a gallon which was added on to excise duty under the recent Budgetary provisions.

They so far apply jnainly to the bottled product, though measures are being taken to reduce the size of glasses and "handles."

Following the decision made last week by a meeting of the, licensed victuallers' association, local brands of bottled beer sold in pint bottles now cost 9d instead of the former Bd, and southern brands have risen from 9d to lOd. Beer bought in bulk has increased by 6d to 5s a gallon.
