EASY TO MAKE
CONTRASTING BOLERO
Although fashion allows us to be more casual nowadays than it did a few years ago, it is still not considered smart to go out in the spring in a short-sleeved dress without a jacket of some kind; unless, of course, one is
living in the depths of the country, where all clothes conventions may be flouted. Fitted jackets are expensive to buy, and not easy to make, for they call for good tailoring. But a brief little bolero is easy to make, and requires only a little material.
One bolero may be worn with a number of dresses, and even though your dresses may be in different colours, some plain and some patterned, you will not need more than two for the whole summer.
The smartest thing is to wear a plain bolero with a patterned frock, or a patterned bolero with a plain one. But two plain materials look well together provided there is a good colour contrast.
When using a pineapple, wash well before peeling. The skin, covered with water, boiled gently for a few minutes, and strained, will make the foundation of a delicious jelly. Gelatine or jelly crystals should be added.
If the knob breaks off a kettle which is urgently wanted insert a metal screw from the underside and screw a. cork on to the projecting point. This will suffice till the solderer gets busy.
