SIGNALLERS 9 BALL

FIRST IN WELLINGTON

OUTSTANDING DECORATIONS

The first annual ball of the Central District Signal Company was held in St. Francis's Hall on Friday, and was an outstanding success. Over five hundred guests were pi-esent.

The hall was brilliantly decorated with bunting, flags of all kinds being suspended from the ceiling and hung round the walls. Blue and white signal colours were draped along the balcony and stage front and crossed signal flags were prominent on the walls, clearly indicating the trade of the unit. A number of large replicas of the corps badge were set in prominent positions, and a sign which spelt out and flashed the word "signals" gave a constant reminder of the work of the unit. Two morse signalling lamps were set up on the stage and were constantly in action to demonstrate the working of two stations in operation. Signals were sent out and replied to by an automatic device especially designed for the occasion by signal personnel. Various notices indicated "Company Headquarters," "Orderly Room," and "Mess Parade Ground," etc.

The supper room was decorated with flowers and the colours of the Royal Corps of Signals, to which the New Zealand body is affiliated. The colours, dark blue, light blue, and green, represent the various channels of communications provided by signals, dark blue for the sea, light blue for the air, and green for the land.

The hosts and hostesses were Captain S. L. Agar, officer commanding the Central District Signal Company, and Captain and Mrs. L. H. Marshall.
