SWATOW INCIDENT
BRITISH REGRET EXPRESSED
An official British statement in Hong Kong says that the commander of the British destroyer Tenedos and the British Consul expressed regret for Monday's incident in Swatow which arose from the presence of British
sailors
It was reported previously that unarmed ratings from the destroyer Tenedos were involved in a fracas with
Chinese when a mob surrounded the British Consulate at Swatow, entered the compound, stoned the building, and shouted anti-British slogans. One Chinese was injured. The Japanese Consul demanded a British admission of the sailors' complicity in the trouble and demanded their punishment, also compensation and an apology.

Chinese offensives are progressing in Honan and Hupeh Provinces. A number of strategic towns have' been captured. Guerrillas are active at Pootung.
The Chinese are moving westwards towards the Shanghai-Hankow railway. They threaten Kashing and Kashan and also points between Shanghai and Hangchow.
