NO QUEENSLAND TEAM

MEN'S OPEN TOURNAMENT

(Received August 4, 11 a.m.)

BRISBANE, This Day

The Queensland Golf Council has decided not to send a team to the national championships in Melbourne because the altered handicap conditions for the open would make five of the seven Queensland players ineligible.

A Melbourne message published yesterday stated that nearly 50 entries, including that of Miss Babe Didrlkson (U.S.A.), had been rejected for the Australian open championship at Melbourne on August 24, 25, and 26. The match committee made a statement that "because of the large number of entries received (183), the match committee of the Royal Melbourne Club decided to reject all entrants with handicaps of more than 2 from standard scratch or 5 from par. The entries accepted total 135."
