COLLEGE OLD BOYS

ASSOCIATION GROWS

Twenty-three colleges or old boys' associations throughout New Zealand were represented by the Combined Schools Old Boys' Association, said the president, Mr. J. D. Willis, at a luncheon gathering of the association yesterday, and more applications for membership were pending. All the principal colleges of the Dominion were represented on the association.

An important event which the association was arranging, said Mr. Willis, would be a ball to be held in the Town Hall and Concert Chamber next March as part of the official Centennial celebrations.

The association, said Mr. Willis, had endeavoured to extend its activities in various useful directions. The question of defence had been taken up with Major-General Duigan and his officers, and the executive had urged upon members of affiliated associations the desirability of enlisting in the Territorial forces.

Another matter that might have to be given attention in the near future, said Mr. Willis, was the suggested Education Amendment Bill, if the Government decided to introduce it. It would be within the association's province to see that the Bill did not infringe upon what the association considered to be the rights of schools and that.it did not attempt to bring about what was in effect the taking of authority from boards of governors. Nothing was known of the Government's intentions in the matter, which would have to be watched.
