WILTON ROAD, WADESTOWN

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The conditions existing in the Wilton Road area have been ventilated through your columns on different occasions but up to the present time the City Council has ignored all requests for some amelioration of the conditions pertaining, due, to the absence of a properly-curbed footpath a' >ng 'this busy thoroughfare. As is well known by the greater number of residents of Wellington, this road leads to the Otari Reserve (or perhaps better known as Wilton's Bush), one of the finest scenic reserves within a hundred, miles of this city, .and it is almost unbelievable that the city authorities seem to have failed to realise what a wonderful heritage the city possesses with this reserve. Why steps have not been taken to make the approach more attractive" by way uf supplying at least a decent footpath, instead of the present impossible clay track along the edge of the road, is very hard to understand. Surely many of the works performed in other Districts cannot all be regarded as more urgent or essential. Even allowing, for the fact that the council may consider that residents of Wellington in general and visitors to the city have no call to request such a footpath, surely it cannot be refuted that it is but a reasonable request oy the ratepayers and residents of the district as a mean of travel to and from their homes under reasonable conditions and safety. lam sure that a walk along this road on any wet day or evening would convince the councillors or engineers that the request i is fully justified. There are also othw j pressing needs in this district, such as erection of conveniences at Izard Park and supply of water thereto, but certainly the most pressing need of the moment is the construction of the footpath referred to, from the commencement of Wilton Road (Wadestown end) to the Wilton Road entrance to the reserve.—l am, etc.. RATEPAYER.
