CHINESE DOLLAR

FURTHER DEPRECIATION

QUESTIONS IN COMMONS

BRITISH INTEREST

(British.Official Wireless.) (Received July 26, 2.30 p.m.)

RUGBY, July 25. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Sinlon, was asked in the House, of Commons, whether he had noted a further depreciation in the exchange value of the Chinese dollar and whether the resources of the currency stabilisation fund had now been exhausted.

Sir John Simon replied that the questioner would, he thought, appreciate that secrecy must be observed in regard to the current position of the Chinese currency stabilisation fund just as in the case of our own or other exchange equalisation funds. Questioned as to whether the Government still regarded it as of British interest that the exchange value.of the Chinese dollar should be maintained, Sir John Simon replied that he could not add to his previous answer, but that no further action was under consideration at the present time.
