AWAPUNI TRIALS

CANDIDATES FOR MARTON

(Special to the "Evening Post.") . PALMERSTON N., This Day. With Manawatu stables freely >-ngaged at the Rangitikei Hunt Meeting on Saturday, there was a fair amount of interesting work ai Awapuni yesterday morning. The course proper, with the flags well out, was available, but the going was holding. Among those out doing pace work, was Beaupartir. who has returned from his holiday in great order. He is big and looks as though his spell has done him a world of good. Millament, has also rejoined the activ brigade, but Chevychase did not come through with the other pair. Onahau ran five furlongs in lmin 14sec, never being off the bit. Blue Steel and Reawanoa were together over a mile, which took them 2min lsec, jand Rollaway and Patahi came home from the three-furlongs post in 42£ see. Evening Glow and Manteau finished a length in front of Royal Choice, covering five furlongs in lmin 12sec, the last three in 43sec. Laughing Lass and The Bigot, who are coming to hand quickly, " could have improved upon their 57sec fjr half a mile. Riotous and Hanover were worked at a good strong pace twice round. ICuisimer, with a pull in the. weights, j [was well clear of Yed Prior at the end of six furlongs in, lmin 27 2-ssec. La Bru and La Coquette sprinted three furlongs in 40 2-ssec and they went particularly well. -Guiding Light, after being given time to find her feet, came home the last three of a seven-furlongs task in 44sec. Duncannon ran three furlongs in 43 2-ssec. Old Bill, who might make a .-.me for himself next season, was given an easy five furlongs. Quadroon finished too well for Moradabad, beating her over half a'mile in 57 3-ssec, the last two furlongs in 27 3-ssec.. Catalogue galloped six furlongs with Raeburn. They took 15sec for the initial furlong and 43 3-ssec for the first three. Raeburn was in front just short of the post, but Catalogue made a final "dab" to cross on terms, the time for the full distance being lmin 26sec. Catalogue is now getvng more fast work, and he should. bei/near his best for the Winter Cup. \\ . Old Surrey covered the last-live of a six-furlongs task in lmin llsec, going strongly throughout, and Amyas Leigh was just in front of" Inchkeith ai the end of five furlongs in lmin 14 2-ssec. Sporting Gift, Debretts, and Israel ran half a mile in 57sec. Peach King went particularly well over five furlongs in better than lmin lOsec. Manawatu and Power Chief were worked over seven furlongs, but were not required to do better than even time. Two juveniles, one being a half- ! sister to Gold Rod. and the other a half-brother to Beaupartir, were allowed to ranter .down the straight. They, are quality youngsters, the former being a chestnut and the latter a brown. Vesty jumped the country, his taok being over a post and rails, two brush fences, and another post and rails. Th£ first was against a bad light, but he never put a foot wrong. W. J. Broughtor.'s riding engagements for Marton are ilaiwaka, Liberal's Mint, and Screen Star. G. R. Tattersall has been engaged for Evening Glow and Guiding Light, and W. J. McDowell will ride Bing Boy if he starts. ■ . ■ '. .
