BRILLIANT BOA AT LAST

"Brilliant Boa's improved form at \y f aimate last Saturday was something t^at the form book could not indicate. %k\a three-year-old two seasons ago he wort a maiden race at Gore, and then in; two seasons' racing since his only i other return had been a third at the Birchwood Hunt Meeting in March. He was on his day last weekend, as he was narrowly beaten by Prince Flaneur in the hack six, then came out again and easily won the hack seven from a half-brother to the horse who had beaten him earlier.

Brilliant Boa has done most of his racing in the colours of .the Southland sportsman Mr. V. N. Price, but a couple of months ago he was sold by Mr. Price to his trainer, F. Shaw, of Wingatui. He is a five-year-old bay gelding by Balboa from the Kilrain— Brilliant Plumes mare Bright Plumes, who descends from Idalia, dam of Sir Modred and Betrayer and ancestress of such other noted performers as Isolt. Fair Nell, Bonnie Scotland, Loyalty, Cheviot, Bridge, Kilrea, etc. More recent winners in the line have included Race Call. All Irish, Brown Abbey, Quinette, Te Waipu. and Money Order.
