SOCIAL SECURITY CHARGES
(To the Editor.)
Sir, — Can you advise me on the.following matter? I have a war pension of £1 a week and am allowed to earn 15s a week. Do I have to pay the Social Security charge of Is in the £ on this 15s a week wage? I am under the impression that all pensioners are exempt from Social Security charges Is this correct? It is certainly hard for me to have Id deducted from each Is 8d I earn. It makes my income so small. I am not permitted by the Pension Board to earn more (nor am I able to do so for health reasons). At the same time the cost of living has greatly increased, but my pension has not been increased. —I am. etc..
UP AGAINST IT,
[Anything the correspondent earns is liable to Is in the £, unless exemption -is obtained, on the grounds of hardship. Application may be made for exemption.]
