SENT TO GAOL
INTOXICATED DRIVER
Controlling the race traffic at Taita yesterday afternoon, Inspector A. C. Crawford noticed a car being driven in an erratic manner, and the driver, John George Cummings, a mechanic, of 5 Heretaunga Street, Petone, was arrested on a charge of being' intoxicated in charge of a motor vehicle. He appeared this morning before Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., at the Lower Hutt Court, and pleaded guilty.
His counsel, Mr. D. M. Dickson, pleaded in extenuation that there had been no accident, to which the Bench replied that the vigilance of the traffic offier was probably responsible for that, and it was not necessary to wait for an accident before making an arrest.'
The defendant was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment, his licence cancelled for the current year, and he was ordered to pay the medical expenses.
