KAIMAI GETS AWAY
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND* July 4,
Shortly before the expiry of the term of notice by the Union Steam Ship Company to pay off the crew of the Westport Coal Company's chartered steamer Kaimai today, the Seamen's Union agreed to fill the vacancies in the ship's complement. The Kaimai, which had been idle in Auckland since last Wednesday, left in the late afternoon on her return to Westport. On the completion of discharge of her coal cargo from Westport on Wednesday, the Kaimai was ready for sea on her return voyage, and a tug was waiting to move her to the stream, when it was found that a fireman was missing. A new man was signed on, and departure was postponed till the following morning, when the fresh fireman left the ship. Since then the sailing of the steamer was postponed day by day while endeavours were made to bring the stokehold complement up to strength.
