SPILLANE CUP
1941 TOURNAMENT
Notification that it was desirous of conducting the annual Marist Spillane Cup Rugby tournament in Wellington during Easter, 1941, was received lay the management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union last night from the Marist Bros. Old Boys' Club. The club stated that a deputation consisting of Messrs. P. Doyle, H. Bowman, and O. Johnson would wait on the management committee at the earliest convenience to test the latter's attitude towards the matter. , "I do not think it is necessary for us to receive a deputation," said the chairman, Mr. J. N. Millard. "We cannot very well refuse the ground (Athletic Park) for the tournament —we will have to do our part. Of course, they will want the ground on the Saturday and Monday, but on the Saturday they might have to share it with other people to a certain extent. They can have sole use of the ground on the Monday." On the motion of Mr. A. Jackson it was decided that the chairman should communicate with Mr. Doyle on the matter.
