TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES

j An enthusiastic meeting of members jof the New Zealand Association of j Temporary Public Servants (Inc.) took place in the Trades Hall last night. ! The president (Mr. W. McAra) pre--1 sided. The secretary of the association (Mr. H. J. Underwood) reported on the outcome of the recent, deputation "of temporary public servants and clerical I union' officials to the Minister of Labour and stated that steps were j being taken throughout the Dominion Ito secure the affiliation of "groups of [temporary public servants-with the i association. Since the last meeting, 2500 applications for membership forms and over 2000 circulars had been distributed throughout the country and it was hoped that shortly all temporary State employees' would. be ..in~ their own Dominion organisation with numerous active branches. Considerable discussion * took place on the secretary's report, and a motion was carried unanimously, endorsing the action of the executive in connection with the deputation to the Minister of Labour, confirming , the statements made to the Press, by the secretary, and reiterating the necessity for a national organisation of temporary public servants. RECOMMENDATIONS ADOPTED. Recommendations of the executive committee that a Wellington advisory committee of the association be constituted, from delegates from the various State Departments, on the basis of one delegate for 25 members, and that an intensive campaign of lunchhour meetings to recruit members be launched were adopted. The executive of the association was also instructed to bring before the,next general meeting proposals providing for functional representation on all executive committees of the association so that all temporary officers1, . whether clerks, messengers, cleaners, or others, might be given democratic rights in the administration of the association. !
