CHANGE IN THE WEATHER

Special forecast for Wellington:—

Strong northerly winds. Weather dull, with occasional rain. Moderate temperatures.

'The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at nbon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for mainly light to moderate and rather variable winds in the South Island. In the North Island northerlies will predominate. These will be strong in force in western areas, but otherwise they will be moderate to fresh. In the eastern and southern districts of the South Island the weather will be fair to fine, but elsewhere it will be cloudy 'to overcast. Rain is probable in western districts ahd about, Cook Strait and will extend later to eastern districts of the North Island. The»e will, be some frosts tonight in. the South Island, but temperatures otherwise will be moderate. • During the weekend the anticyclone responsible for the recent spell of settled weather, and' which had remained centred to the west for several days, moved slowly in a north-easterly direction, and an extensive depression is now located over the southern Tasman Sea, while a very slight disturbance crossed the South Island last night. Winds have been rather variable, with south-westerlies predominating in the South Island. On Sunday, however, there was a pronounced change to northerlies over most of the North Island, and northerlies -were strong this morning about Cook Strait and in Taranaki. Although there was seme increase in cloud, settled weather continued to prevail over the whole country on Saturday and Sunday. During; last night, however, thick and misty weather developed in western districts from Taranaki southward and about Cook Strait, and intermittent [ rain is falling in those areas. Cape Egmont reports a fall of 44 points, Stephens Island 21 points, Westport -42 points, and Jackson's Bay 132 pbmts. A little drizzling rain fell in the Canterbury district last night, but the weather this morning was fine and Isunny on the east coast of the South Island and in Southland, while it was cloudy to overcast in the northern and eastern districts of the North Island.

Fine weather with' high cloud prevailed during the weekend at Auckland. Winds were> mainly light. ;■ and variable, south-westerlies predominating on Saturday airid: easterlies yesterday, while a light northerly breeze was blowing this morning. Temperatures have been rather cool, Saturday's maximum and minimum being 61.6 and 47.2 degrees, and Sunday's 58 and 52.2 degrees. --.'.' Both days in Wellington were fine, but with a considerable amount of light cloud. Bright sunshine on Saturday totalled 4.4 hours, and yesterday 2.3 hours. There was a temporary change to a light southerly on Saturday evening, but otherwise a northerly breeze prevailed. Last night, however, the wind freshened and became very strong, the weather this morning being dull and misty with intermittent light rain. Up to 9 a.m. today 12 points of rain had been recorded at Kelburn. Temperatures over the weekend were moderate, 56.9 and 44.5 degrees being the maximum and minimum on ;Saturday, and 55.3 and 48.2 degrees the maximum and minimum on Sunday. Christchurch had a considerable amount of high cloud on both days, but the weather otherwise was fine. Except for a moderate north-easterly breeze during Sunday .afternoon, a light southerly wind predominated. A little light rain totalling three points fell last night, but the weather this morning, after being foggy early, was bright and sunny. The maximurc temperature on Saturday was 56.3 degrees and the minimum 34.3 degrees, with a frost of 4.9 degrees. Yesterday's maximum and minimum temperatures were 54.2 and 38.5 degrees respectively.

Skies in Dunedin were cloudy to overcast during"' the weekend, but the weather this morning was sunny with passing cloud. Temperature have been rather cool owing to the prevalence of a light to moderate, southwesterly wind.
