SPORTS ATTRACTIONS

ENTERTAINING PROGRAMME

There will be an attractive programme of sports attractions in Wellington for the King's. Birthday holiday on Monday. An outline in some detail of most of the events was given in yesterday's "Post." Principal interest among Rugby enthusiasms will be taken in the senior grade championship match at Athletic Park in the afternoon between Wellington and Marist Brothers Old Boys, neither of which has been beaten this season. The finals of seven-a-side tournaments in four grades will also take place at the park. The elimination rounds are to be played in the morning at the Kilbirnie Recreation Ground, Wakefield • Park, arid Hataitai Park. ■ There will be an Association, football match at the Basin Reserve in the afternoon between the Canterbury and Wellington representative teams. At the Showgrounds, John Street, the Wellington Rugby League is to hold a gala day. In addition to seven-a-side tournaments for all grades, there will be inter-club relay' racing, goalkicking competitions, novelty events, 100 yards League footballers' championship, and a display of acrobatics Iby the Jenkins Physical Culture School. A women's senior and junior seven-a-side hockey tournament is to be held at Karori Park, and a women's basketball tournament is to be conducted on the Mt. Cook and Hataitai grounds. Indoors, at the Y.M.C.A.. the New Zealand men's and women's basketball championship tournaments will be continued. The golf clubs have arranged special programmes, the Karori Club holding an open amateur tournament, which will include the Wellington suburban championship. The nearest race meeting will be at Wanganui. Other attractions will include the picture theatres, and a wrestling match at the Town Hall. The usual tram service will" operate , but certain of the tramway and railway bus services will not be run, and in other cases alterations to the timetables have been made.
