COUNTY CRICKET AT HOME
LONDON, June 1. W. R. Hammond, the Test captain, again led the way among the batsmen who scored heavily in the series of English county cricket matches which was concluded today, contributing a treble century to Gloucestershire's score of 505 for five wickets against Glamorgan. The latter team, after being well behind on the first innings, piled on the runs in their second strike, E. Davies being unbeaten with 287 out of a total of 577 for four wickets. Among other big totals Nottinghamshire declared their second innings closed'at 335 for two wickets. Several players distinguished themselves in both innings. Squires (Surrey) made 97 and 107 not out, and Dyson (Glamorgan) 99 not out and 120 not out; while among the bowlers Copson (Derbyshire) and Bowes (Yorkshire) performed corresponding feats. (Received June 3, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 2. Results of county cricket matches are:— Surrey v. Sussex, at the Oval.— i Surrey, 345 (Squires 97) and 314 for six, declared (Squires, not out, 107). Susex, 208 (John Langridge 108; Gover six for 60) and 63 (Brown six for 21). Surrey won by 388 runs. Derbyshire y. Kent, at Ilkeston. — Kent, 143 (Copson five for 39) and 99 (Copson four for 30). Derbyshire, 112 (Todd four for 29) and 134 for five. Derbyshire won by five wickets. Glamorgan v. Gloucestershire, at Newport.—Glamorgan, 196 (Dyson, not out, 99; Goddard four for 45) and 577 for four (Dyson, not out, 120, E. Davies, not out, 287). Gloucestershire, 505 for five, declared (Hammond 302). Gloucestershire won on the first innings. \ Lancashire v. Hampshire, at Manchester. —Lancashire, 488 for six, declared (Iddon, not out, 141). Hampshire, 290 (Bailey 100) and 132 (Wilkinson eight for 53). Lancashire won by an innings and 60 runs. Leicestershire v. Nottinghamshire, at Leicester. —Nottinghamshire, 290 and 335 for two, declared (Heane, not out, 116, Hardsjtaff, not out, 125). Leicestershire, 252 (Woodhead five for 51) and 220 for three. Nottinghamshire won on the first innings. Warwickshire v. Yorkshire, at Birmingham.—Warwickshire, 219 (Bowes seven for 50) and 144 (Bowes five for 49, Verity five for 38). Yorkshire, 417 (Hutton 158). Yorkshire won by an innings and .54 runs.
