KING'S BIRTHDAY ATTRACTION
One of the major attractions for the King's Birthday will be the hui at the Tatau-o-te-po (the Maori meeting hall) on the Hutt Road, Lower Hutt. This ! effort to raise funds for the. Centennial Memorial on the Petone beach has been organised entirely by the Maoris,! who are most anxious to have an opportunity to assist in the memorial to an event in which they took equal part with the pakeha. The hui'"will commence at 11 a.m. and continue all day, closing with a social and dance at 8 p.m. The chief attractions will be a Maori hangi (an exhibition of old-time Maori cooking at which a sheep will be cooked) and an exhibiThere, will be on sale Maori baskets, taniko and muka work, as well, a^ fancy work, flower, cake, and produce stalls, and attractions by way of games of skill. This will be a unique option of Maori weaving and other arts, portunity. of seeing a picture of oldtime Maori life as well as assisting the funds of the memorial."
