PACIFIC AIR SERVICE
ESTABLISHMENT OF BASE AT NOUMEA HONOLULU, May 2. A Pan-American Airways construction party of six men to establish an airways base at Noumea departed today in the Mariposa for Sydney, where they will transfer to a steamer for Noumea. The leader of the party, Mr. A. L. Lewis, formerly Pan-American Airways' airport manager in Auckland, stated that he had been informed when the experimental flights would occur. He understood that the American route would be via Honolulu, Canton Island, and Noumea to Auckland. Mr. Lewis said he was positive that the company would not directly enter Australia.
Another construction crew will leave Honolulu within a week to establish a base on Canton Island, but Government experts declare that the survey flights will not be made for six months at the earliest.
