FIRST A DIVISION

DIAMOND CO WELL

Although they only drew with Mapist at Kelburn Park, the score being 3-atl, Diamond played the better game and gave indication of their potential worth with further training and perhaps some alterations to the defence. Diamond were always mare enterprising than their opponents and though they showed severa.l weaknesses could justifiably regard themselves as unlucky not to win, , ■ Marist showed their usual flashes of brilliance, but only in individual and two-man or three-man combinations, They never got going as a team, but they showed enough of their football abilities to make it seem that they will prove upsetting before the season is finished

The game was interesting at times but for the mast part scrappy, and towards the end, after Marist had equalised at 3-all, most uninteresting. It was a typical first-qf-season contest, players showing some individual merits but failing to settle down to effective team work. Marist started well with a goal ten minutes from the kick-off, but Diamond playing brighter football, soon overhauled them and at the interval led 2-1 Another goal for .Diamond soon after the start of the second spell seemed to spell defeat for Marist, but most surprisingly they came to light .with two quick and easy goals, v.and there the score remained. -^ Both teams will improve with practice. On Saturday's performances Diamond were the more promising. /
