In the first games of the Association football season, played on Saturday, first division scores generally were large, two exceptions being the 3-all draw between Diamond and Marist, and Petone's 2-1 win over Swifts, the promoted team from the first B division. Swifts went really well and gave a taste of the strength they niay be expected to develop as the season progresses. Diamond and Marist played a scrappy draw, Diamond showing superiority to the Marist eleven. Seatoun had the biggest win of the day, defeating Technical Old Boys 9-0, and Hospital began the season badly by going down 6-2 to Waterside at Porirua. In the first D division Scottish Wanderers, last year in the first A division, managed to beat the newly-formed Training College team by only 4-1. Lower Hutt and Institute had easy wins at the - expense of Miramar Rangers and Onslow respectively, and Nada beat Stop Out by 6 goals to 3. Ground and overhead conditions were fair.
