CHURCH MEETINGS

ST. ANNE'S, NORTHLAND

The annual meeting of the parishioners of St. Anne's Church, Northland, was held last night, the vicar, the Rev. J. E. Ashley-Jones, presiding over a good attendance. In his report, the vicar expressed his deep gratitude for the great kindness in the way of hospitality, thoughtfulness, helpfulness, and loyalty that had been shown, to him during the year. It was an inspiration to him. he said, to realise what a splendid body of sincere and earnest Christian workers St. Anne's had. He i-egretted that two devoted workers. Mrs. Guise, a member of the vestry, and her son George, secretary of the senior boys' Bible class and one of his altar servers, were leaving the district, for they would be much missed. Another loss was that of Mr. Wainwright, a~ member of the vestry, and Mrs. Wainwright, who were leaving for Auckland. The vicar spoke of the gift o-f a beautiful lectern by Mr. and .Mrs. Bowcock in memory of their daughter Mary Joyce, and of the fashioning of the top brass portion of the lectern by Mr. F. A. Cotterell. Other gifts made to the church by-the ladies' guild and the girls' Bible class were acknowledged by the vicar, who thanked the vestry, choir, organists, church officers, and various helpers for their services. In this connection, he mentioned that Mr. Edmund Jones, the beloved people's churchwarden, was now in his ninety-sixth year, and said they heartily congratulated him. „ The good work being done in the Bible classes, the Sunday school, and in the various church organisations

The number of participants in Holy Communion during the year was 1239, an increase of 286 over the previous year. Officers were elected as follows:— Vestry, Captain F. A. Macindoe, Messrs. S. Gerard. W. Platt, H. Coomber, A, Rastall. W. Honsa, E. A. K. Swiney, Mesdames Honsa and Adams, and Miss Higgie; vicar's churchwarden, Mr. F. A. Cotterell; people's churchwarden, Mr. Edmund Jones; treasurer, Mr. W. Honsa;.secretary ■, Mr. H. Coomber. At the conclusion of the meeting, supper was served by the members of the ladies' guild.
