SEASON EXTENDED
ROTORUA-TAUPO FISHERIES
TO CLOSE ON MAY 31
.The closing of thb trout-fishing season for Rotorua and Taupo lakes and streams, which normally should be on May 14, has been extended for a fortnight, and the season will now end on May 31. The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) stated today that the season was being extended at the request of fishermen, who«.in a lai'4eJ;ysigned rsetition, pointed out that the abnormally dry season had affected the runs of fish to such an extent that river fishermen had had very little opportunity of enjoying good sport.
"There may be varying conditions in different parts of the district, but, taking all circumstances into consideration, there is only one course, and that is to make extension until Ma,y 31, applicable to the whole of the Rotorua acclimatisation district," said the Minister. "Anglers should feel that all that is needed now is some rain to oroduce good sport."
