AUTUMN FLOWERS
HUTT VALLEY SHOW
Autumn blooms in all their golden beauty were displayed at the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society's Chrysanthemum and Dahlia Show, which was. opened at the Horticultural Hall, Laing's Road, Lower Hutt, by Lady Wilford, this afternoon. Double chrysanthemums, which in years past were a feature of the show, are not now so popular as they were, but their place has been taken by chrysanthemums which excel for decorative purposes. The entries for competition are of a high order and especially is this so in the dahlia section.
In the stands for exhibition only, a centre' of attraction was the children's section, the display of saucer gardens and buttonholes being specially attractive. -Mr. H. Poole has a most colourful and artistic stand of seedling begonias which, considering the lateness of the season, are exceedingly good; the flowers are set off by n idenhair and other ferns, and interspersed with other colourful blooms. The Lower Hutt reserves committee (Mr. E. Hutt) has a very fine stand r single chrysanthemums from the borough gardens; and Mr. A. McMillan a bright stand of dahlias, as also has Mr. F. Mason. The Garden Circle has an attractive stand of cut flowers. Mrs. E. L. Riddiford a stand of single chrysanthemums which, set out by berried plants and outlined in moss-coyered rocks, makes a striking exhibit. ' Mr. G. Cairns has a colourful stand /of begonia blooms, and the Rev; D,. H.
vyman has an exhibit of cut flowers, The show will be open this evening
